Reminders for a safe return to campus

We hope families are enjoying a safe Spring Break. Here are some reminders to ensure a safe return to campus next week:

  • If your child(ren) felt under the weather during this break, please make sure they are completely symptom-free before returning to school. Please review the Daily Wellness Check (which was last updated 3/10/22) and continue to conduct it every day. Any student exhibiting COVID-like symptoms will be immediately isolated and sent home as well as all siblings who are not fully vaccinated regardless if they are showing any symptoms. Fully vaccinated siblings (2 weeks after 2nd shot) may remain in school as long as they are not showing any symptoms. Proof of vaccination is required.

  • Outdoor masking at public school campuses is optional. Indoor masking continues to be required by all students, staff, and visitors at public schools until further notice.

  • Beginning March 21, students who travel out of the state must meet the State of Hawaii Safe Travels requirements to return to school. Please visit the Safe Travels Hawai‘i site for the most current information about those requirements. Travelers are recommended to get tested for COVID-19 three days following their arrival. Quarantine is not required while awaiting post-travel test results.

  • At-home COVID tests are not acceptable for proving negative results. Tests must be done with a healthcare provider or at any of the locations listed on the COVID-19 State of Hawaii Portal’s Test Site Finder. Please send COVID test results to your child(ren)’s teacher as well as our School Health Aide, Karen Tolentino by email to karen.tolentino@k12.hi.us OR by fax to 595-5405.

  • If your child or someone in your household tests positive for COVID (even with a home test) please be sure to inform the school immediately. We rely heavily on the transparency of each parent/guardian to help keep our Maemae Ohana and community safe.

  • Once your child has been fully vaccinated, we encourage you to send a copy of your child(ren)’s vaccination record to our School Health Aide at karen.tolentino@k12.hi.us for recordkeeping.

  • Maemae Elementary is a peanut and tree nut “allergy aware” school. Kindly remind your children not to share food. Thank you for helping us provide a safe environment for our friends with food allergies.

If you have any questions, please contact the school office at 595-5400.
