February is Kindergarten registration month!

Will your child or someone you know have a child turning 5 years old by July 31st (born between 8/1/19-7/31/20)?  If so, please register them for Kindergarten beginning February 1st.  

The first step to registering is to check if you live within Maʻemaʻe’s  geographical area. Please use the Department of Education's SchoolSite Locator to generate a list of elementary, middle, and high schools within your area. 

If you live in the Maʻemaʻe geographical area please be prepared to complete/bring the following:

• Enrollment Form

• Proof of Residence (Resident Verification Form)

• Kindergarten Questionnaire

• Supplemental Kindergarten Enrollment Form

• Home Language Survey -  Language List (for reference only)

• ID of Parent/Guardian

• Student’s Birth Certificate

• Form 14 (Student Health Record)

• Custody Documents (if necessary)

You may complete the forms and print them in advance to expedite the process. Registration hours are Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm, excluding holidays.

The process should take 15-20 minutes if you are prepared.  

If you DO NOT live within our district and wish to attend Maʻemaʻe Elementary, you will need to apply for a Geographical Exception (GE). The application period is January 1- March 1 to enroll for the following school year. This is a strict deadline to qualify for our GE lottery. GE's are available at your home school. Paperwork must first be submitted through your home school. For more detailed information about the GE  and registration process, please visit the Hawaii State Department of Education website.
