PE Assignments

Your child's PE teacher, Mr. Ishikawa will be sharing enrichment activities to you through this portal.

Aloha e Maʻemaʻe P.E. ʻOhana,

I hope you are well and finding ways to keep active while at home.  I miss our weekly interactions but wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you and encourage you to stay active as your situation allows.

Remember, physical activity refers to movements that require the use of large muscle groups (arms and legs) and increase sweating and breathing rates.  I have been on the elliptical machine for 30 minutes a day and hitting the home gym at least 3 days a week. Now if I can only stay away from the refrigerator, I will be okay.

  • Aerobic activities are done to improve aerobic fitness; examples include jogging, bike riding, swimming, and dancing.
  • Muscular activities require a lot of strength—for example, gymnastics, cheer, dance and drill teams, track and field, weightlifting, calisthenics, wrestling, and martial arts.

  • Flexibility activities involve stretching muscles as in martial arts (such as tai chi), stretching, yoga, and ballet.

A calendar of suggested daily activities has been provided below.  Please feel free to modify its use. For example, you can perform the suggested daily activities at your own comfort level and gradually increase your level of involvement as you become more comfortable and ready to try the activities in their entirety. Or, you can repeat those suggested activities that you prefer regardless of the day or week.

With “social distancing” it may be difficult to participate with others but if you can grab a family member to join you it’s always more fun.

As our principal, Mr. Uyeda, has mentioned, look for ways to be caring and helpful.  It will please your parents and family members if you actively seek ways to serve your family’s needs and give you an opportunity to put away the gaming console and get off the couch.  Housework and yardwork can provide you with calorie burning activity while benefiting the family. I do my part to wash the dishes everyday, do the laundry and clean the bathroom. I have mowed the lawn, trimmed the plants and cleaned a small pond.

I hope you have fun looking for ways to keep active.  Remember, you are in my thoughts and I will be checking in with you again soon.

Mahalo,

Mr. Ishikawa
